[SOLVED] Encrypted UEFI Install on Zenbook Prime (ux31a)

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AS … rime_UX31A
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … stallation (certain parts, as I'm new to the installation CD that doesn't contain AIF)

Hello everyone.  I've been following the above wiki pages trying to get an encrypted root setup on my new zenbook prime, but have run into an issue.  I've managed to get grub2 installed and setup with UEFI properly, however I cannot boot.  I've added the proper hooks to mkinicpio.conf and have confirmed everything I know to confirm, but I continue running into the error displayed below.  My zenbook boots right into the Arch grub2, but when it tries to boot it:

error: no such device: e449f501-1da6-43ab-a90b-c938b2eded26.
Loading Linux core repo kernel ...
error: disk 'cryptouuid/4bfe8dac264e464c951b3efc9bbe918a' not found.
Loading initial ramdisk...
error: you need to load the kernel first.

I have the install CD handy so I've tried repeatedly to reconfigure grub according to the wiki pages, copy the .efi file, etc. but to no avail.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  It feels like I'm so close but just missing one simple step.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Re: [SOLVED] Encrypted UEFI Install on Zenbook Prime (ux31a)

Ok, so I'm thinking this has to do with the fact that I haven't created a separate /boot partition, (though I thought I could have everything needed installed to the EFI partition).  I went through the install again a second time because I realized I missed the filesystem entry in MODULES inside /etc/mkinicpio.conf, however I ended up with the same error.

Shortly, I'm going to try creating all this with a separate /boot partition.  The only thing I'm lost on is how to actually get the /boot data onto the actual /boot partition, because following the beginner's guide, /boot is not even mounted.  I can see a way of easily getting that data there (i.e., mount /dev/sda2 [which would be my boot partition] to an arbitrary mount point while chroot'd, and copying all /boot data there).

I'll report back here on how that works out.  If anyone has any pointers, let me know.

I got it to work by separating boot!  I also needed to do a few things that weren't in the wiki (for some reason, had to copy /boot/efi/EFI/grub/grub.cfg to /boot/grub/grub.cfg, as they were not the same; also had to 'mkinicpio -p linux' again after taking that step).  If anyone ever has trouble trying to do the same thing, feel free to PM me.  smile

Sorry, off-topic. I don't have anything to add to this, just wondering how the zenbook is in terms of quality. I'd love to hear what you think of it. I'm considering buying one myself.

Please don't necrobump old threads, particularly when your problem is clearly unrelated:
