No sound with 3.4.8.1
I upgraded to linux (kernel 3.4.8.1) today to see if the problems with the audigy 2 soundcard had been resolved, and they had not.
So I will return to linux-lts.

I installed 3.4.9.1 and still had the same problem.
I will file a bug report at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/
