Tried to install Doom 3: command to start isn't recognized

Got the binary from: http://ftp.gameaholic.com/pub/mirrors/f … m3/source/
Installed it and added the missing .pk4 files from the CDs to the base directory.
However, when I type in 'doom3' at the command line to start it, I just get 'command not found'.
I installed to '/home/throne777/games/doom3/'. I searched the folder for an executable and can't seem to find one. Any one have any ideas?

What do you mean you "installed it"?  Did you just copy a file to that directory?  Is that directory in your path?  Why didn't you use the AUR package(s)?

When you say you cant find an executable in that folder, then what did you copy there when you installed?

You nee to install the needed lib32-* packages. Hint install lib32-glibc first, you video drivers and go on from there.

How is this related to Doom 3 and not being able to find a way to execute it ?

Well, didn't realise there was an AUR package, but it looks like just a bundled version of the binaries I already downloaded (doom3-linux-1.3.1.1304-sdk.x86.run). You run it, it runs a little installer, asks where you want to install it, gets you to accept the license, etc., does it's thing, says 'successfully installed' and so on.

Don't you want doom3-linux-1.3.1.1304.x86.run (from: http://ftp.gameaholic.com/pub/mirrors/f … om3/linux/) rather than the sdk version? And if you install it to your /home you'll need to:

cd /home/throne777/games/doom3/
./doom3

I just grabbed the file the Ubuntu documentation recommended to get. I'll try using the AUR package, see if that helps. Also, the installer asks you where you want to install the game; it doesn't simply dump the files in the folder it's in.

Re: Tried to install Doom 3: command to start isn't recognized

I was having some Doom 3 issues and someone pointed me to aur/dhewm3-git .  It will build native 64bit binaries and sound seems to be working better for me.
