Issue With NVidia Card and Multiple Hauppauge Tuner Cards (Solved)

I have an issue trying to get NVidia cards to work on a system with multiple TV tuner cards (I've tried two, a 9800GT and a GT440.  I'm building a MythBox and need the tuners.

Anyway, a Mythbuntu load words just fine.  I also installed Arch with an ATI card I had lying around and there were no conflicts.  So, this is a Nvidia specific issue.

I did try disabling KMS and that cleared some errors where it looked like the kernel was trying to load Nouveau drivers (which were never installed).

This is the main error I'm getting.  Once I get the machine up and running, without the tuners installed, I'll be able to post some full logs.  For now, any advice would be appreciated.

NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Input/output error)

Re: Issue With NVidia Card and Multiple Hauppauge Tuner Cards (Solved)

Because I can't let something like this go, it's nearly 4 am.  However, I've managed to fix it.

When I found the conflict was between the cx18 driver for the Hauppauge HVR-1600 and the NVidia driver I was able to Google a solution.  Anyway, here's the fix.

Allocating more memory for the kernel so that it can initialize more graphics cards.

I had to modify my GRUB config file.

First make a backup of your GRUB file.

cp /boot/grub/grub.cfg /boot/grub/grub.cfg.backup

Then add the red text to the appropriate line.

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ###
menuentry 'Arch GNU/Linux, with Linux core repo kernel' --class arch --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os $menuentry_id_option 'gnulinux-core repo kerne$
        load_video
        set gfxpayload=keep
        insmod gzio
        insmod part_msdos
        insmod ext2
        set root='hd0,msdos1'
        if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
          search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd0,msdos1 --hint-efi=hd0,msdos1 --hint-baremetal=ahci0,msdos1  eab65ccc-2063-47eb-abc2-d7ec50$
        else
          search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root eab65ccc-2063-47eb-abc2-d7ec508d9604
        fi
echo    'Loading Linux core repo kernel ...'
        linux   /boot/vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=eab65ccc-2063-47eb-abc2-d7ec508d9604 ro  quiet vmalloc=512M
        echo    'Loading initial ramdisk ...'
        initrd  /boot/initramfs-linux.img

Not that i need it, but thank you for posting the solution and color the relevant part, the new grub syntax seems like a totally mess to me smile
