resulted in mute audio. ALSA mixer shows volumes on. speaker-test provides no audible output.
System had two video adapters (GeForce 560 Ti) in SLI, each with intel audio (not used), and a EVGA 132-YW-E178-A1 nForce 780i SLI FTW mainboard with nvidia MCP55 chipset using snd_hda_intel.

I tried to downgrade to linux-lts but stopped at nvidia dependency snag.

In my pc applay works fine both in the regular use but my problem is more odd, the follow comand does not work:
aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
no sound at all
I have an Asus AT3N7A-I
this is my out as my own user...
