Laptops brightness not remembered

Every time I boot my laptop, the brightness is at its maximum. I could reduce it, but it will change everytime I reboot or even when I leave it alone for sometime - perhaps it got dimmed down, but after moving the mouse, or some action, the brightness increases probably to the maximum again. How do I fix this? Or do I need some package? I am using XFCE4.10

If using systemd, you could also either use a tmpfile.d entry or a udev rule... if asking this question in the first place though, maybe you should just stick with Stebalien's suggestion
