This post comes as already solved, I post it only for reference sake if someone is searching for the same problem.
I had a working MP495 printer on a 32bit system, with this driver: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=56775
Since recent upgrades (including systemd merge, cups and libcups) the printing stopped working with the following message in the queue: "Waiting for printer to become available."
The relevant output from "lsusb -v" : http://sprunge.us/QYhW
After setting
cupsctl --debug-logging
the logfile gives the following: http://sprunge.us/KaUT
This caught my attention:
D [05/Sep/2012:11:24:59 +0200] [Job 128] libusb_get_device_list=10
D [05/Sep/2012:11:24:59 +0200] [Job 128] Failed to open device, code: -3
I [05/Sep/2012:11:24:59 +0200] [Job 128] Waiting for printer to become available.
The remedy was actually simple, but the idea came only after a day or so: I removed and readded the printer in CUPS. I have no idea why.
