Audio not working for Intel ICH 7 HD Audio

Hi guys its my first day to use arch linux.

I just purchased my new netbook and just installed arch linux following the beginners guide.

Im now on the sound part and followed the ALSA link but somehow its not working.

so far this is what i did:

1. install alsa-utils only
2. run alsamixer and set all volumes to 0 db gain (unmutted all)
3. run speaker-test only (no options) but no audio... running speaker-test only without any options works in my ubuntu
4. also tried adding this but alsamixer/speaker-test wont run after adding

/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
defaults.pcm.card 0
defaults.pcm.device 0
defaults.ctl.card 0

5. checked modules "$ lsmod | grep '^snd' | column -t" but all seems to be loaded correctly
6. checked /dev/snd:

$ ls /dev/snd
by-path controlC0 hwC0D2 pcmC0D0c pcmC0D0p pcmC0D2p seq timer

please advise...
