I am running KDE on a computer with motherboard audio driving 5.1 surround sound speakers by analog jacks. The motherboard also has digital out and HDMI out, and I have a NVidia GTX 560ti with an HDMI output--but I can only use the DVI output with my monitor and the monitor doesn't have any speakers.
I am using Guitar Pro 6 (the native linux version) which requires Pulseaudio for sound output. At first Pulseaudio worked perfectly (much better than ALSA for surround sound!), but then a few months ago, an update caused Pulse to see only one digital audio device: GF114 HDMI Audio Controller. I believe this is the nvidia output, but I need Pulse to use the motherboard Analog output, which it pretends doesn't exist. Alsamixer still sees two soundcards, analog (ATI SB) and digital (NVidia). I have made sure all outputs are unmuted and also tried muting the NVidia outputs.
I have reinstalled Pulse several times, gone through the steps in the wiki, and searched forums for this problem.
If you can shed some light on this frustrating problem, you have my sincere gratitude!

Well, I feel kinda stupid now . . . found the answer right here. Timidity++ was in my daemons config (I was using it for TuxGuitar) and it was stealing the analog soundcard from Pulse. Removed it and my analog card reappeared like magic.
