Arbitrary terminal stall

I ls in a xfce terminal emulator and abruptly in the middle of listing files it quits and pressing any key returns to the prompt.  No use of ls | less or anything like that.  Anybody else notice this?

Re: Arbitrary terminal stall

No, I am not seeing it in xfce terminal.

You have to be more specific. For example, can you reproduce the problem in console (no X)? Also, what do you mean by "it quits"?

Re: Arbitrary terminal stall

Output starts as it normally does, but as it scrolls down, it just arbitrarily quits in midprocess and returns to the shell, the process runs incompletely for some strange reason.  I don't think it makes any difference, but I do have multiple terminal tabs open at a time.

Re: Arbitrary terminal stall

This sounds very odd.  Perhaps one source of info is to see what happens with `ls | tee logfile`.

When you get incomplete input in on the screen, is the logfile also incomplete?  Or in otherwords, is the ls command actually failing, or is the problem with the shell/terminal emulator showing displaying the info.

edit: fixed the typo noted below

Re: Arbitrary terminal stall

You meant ls | tee logfile, I'll try it until I find something, but even yet this little episode is intermittent as well.
