kdebindings-3.4.2-3 error installing

I have tried updating kde from testing and have recieved this error

error: the following file conflicts were found:
  kdebindings: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.7: exists in filesystem
  kdebindings: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.7: exists in filesystem

I can not find any info on this via google.  I issued

rm -R /usr/lib/perl5

and installation took place.  I am not who to inform here, so I thought to place a quick write up here  smile

Cheers

   You shouldn't  delete whole directories like that unless you're looking for trouble. You should reinstall perl as you almost deleted it completely and lots of package depends on it.

Re: kdebindings-3.4.2-3 error installing

Thanks Snowman,

I reinstalled perl.  Just out of interest, if you look through the packages contained in kdebindings, perl seems to be apart of it now.  Is that correct?

Cheers

Re: kdebindings-3.4.2-3 error installing

I don't use testing but I have some perl stuff in kdebindings.

$ pacman -Ql kdebindings |grep perl
kdebindings /opt/kde/share/sip/qtext/qextscintillalexerperl.sip
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/DCOP.pm
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/DCOP/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/DCOP/Object.pm
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/DCOP/
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/DCOP/.packlist
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/DCOP/DCOP.bs
kdebindings /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/DCOP/DCOP.so

The problem you had was a directory conflict which should not happen.  Several peple had this problem with kdebindings.  It could be a problem with kdebindings itsel or a pacman/database problem.

Re: kdebindings-3.4.2-3 error installing

I have had no problems since reinstall which is positive. I usuall don't use testing myself, but decided to  give it a go as I wanted OOO2 and a few other packages.

So far, testing seems very sturdy, but I am not deluding myself that this will always be the case.  I have not -Syu 'ed my whole system.  I am happy to avoid this by switching testing on and off for full updates.

Thanks for your reply :-)

cheers
