Gnome 2.12

Today I installed Gnome 2.12 from testing. When i try to start I run into an error message:

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.

The Settings Daemon restarted too many times.

The last error message was:

Child process did not give an error message, unknown failure occurred

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in.

Any help?

Re: Gnome 2.12

OK, I've found the problem, the libgnome-menu.so.2 is missing from /usr/lib. I can't imagine why, but it's not there, not even after several pacman -S gnome.

Re: Gnome 2.12

That file belongs to the gnome-menus package and it's installed in /opt/gnome/lib

Do you have a
/opt/gnome/lib
line in  /etc/ld.so.conf ?

Re: Gnome 2.12

Yes I have this line, but i don have the libgnome-menu.so.2 in the /opt/gnome/lib. So if I remove from the /usr/lib the gnome doesn´t start and came up the above error mesage. Right now with the libgnome-menu.so.2 in the /usr/lib I can start Gnome but the panel doesn´t working. It crashing all the time.

Re: Gnome 2.12

Try reinstalling gnome-menus.  You shouldn't change the location of system files.

Re: Gnome 2.12

Thanks for your help, after several reinstall finaly I have a working panel, but I still have some strange problems. I can't add certain items to the panel, like the clock, the windows list, the show desktop, the trash and so on, here is the error message after I tried to add the clock. The problem is the same for all users, including root.

The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet".

Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

Any idea?
