kernel 3.6.3 and nvidia issue

greetings,  I just upgraded my kernel to 3.6.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT (standard distributed linux kernel from the arch repos) and i use the nvidia drivers.  One thing i am noticing is that after a period of time of non-use my monitor will turn off, and not come back to life unless i cold boot.  furthermore when i try to probe the temperature on the video card i get an error

Here is the video card:

lspci|grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G92 [GeForce GTS 250] (rev ff)

Error when trying to probe temperature (only happens AFTER the system kills display to the monitor):

 $ sudo nvidia-smi -q -d TEMPERATURE
NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Input/output error).
Failed to initialize NVML: Unknown Error

dmesg output for the error:

[ 8510.991998] NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x23:0x2f:675)
[ 8510.992006] NVRM: rm_init_adapter(0) failed

I'm not sure where else to look so that i can file a bug report (or if i even should)

any direction is appreciated
