[ Solved ] Firefox profile cannot be loaded .

After  a few weeks of not updating , ( I was off line ), I updated and Firefox displays the following message ;
" Your profile cannot be loaded . It may be missing or inaccesible. "

    In  ' Home ' I have .mozilla-backup and under properties - owner is , ( in a blue ? box ) , the word ' Me '  , .

I have notta clue , I've googled and found mostly window answers .

However if I start Firefox in a Terminal , ( sudo ) , it will open , no bookmarks , homepages , add-ons are not present .
Like a New Install if that sounds right .

 [wesley@ratdog ~]$ sudo pacman -Syyu

Googling brought up 'Ubuntu' forums dated back in February .

To recap clicking on Firefox Icon displays Error Message .

Using ' sudo ' in Terminal Firefox does run - Stripped Down - no bookmarks - no add ons - no passwords .

Thank You for any and all suggestions .

Re: [ Solved ] Firefox profile cannot be loaded .

Why are you using sudo to start firefox ? Don't do that you may become vulnerable .
what is the output  when you run firefox from your terminal without sudo ?

Re: [ Solved ] Firefox profile cannot be loaded .

Don't run firefox as root! Seriously, of all the applications not to run as root, web browsers should be top of your list.

Do you have ~/.mozilla? If so rename it temporarily.

Run firefox from the command line without privileges i.e. as you. This will enable you to see the errors produced. It isn't surprising it doesn't work well when run with sudo. (I'm somewhat surprised this works at all.)

I have no idea what blue box you are referring to. Use ls -l to get information about ownership and permissions.

Look in your logs - .xsession-errors as well as the systemwide logs.

Re: [ Solved ] Firefox profile cannot be loaded .

Output from Terminal without ' sudo '  , ( pop-up window outside of Terminal) , "" Your profile cannot be loaded . It may be missing or inaccesible. "

Thank you for your help but Firefox won't run .

As cfr said , rename your ~/.mozilla temporarily and see if that works .

Re: [ Solved ] Firefox profile cannot be loaded .

You used psd (profile sync daemon)?
Rename the folder to .mozilla and it will work again. Make sure if you are using psd and if you will be using it in the future to start and stop the process correctly.

Re: [ Solved ] Firefox profile cannot be loaded .

PSD is a daemon that syncs your firefox profile to ram. Firefox gets faster, less access to the harddrive.
When it syncs the .mozilla folder to ram, the daemon makes a backup folder, which you need, if there are some problems.
I had similar problems and in my case, it was psd which caused the problem.
