Hi all -
Managed to set up lm_sensors at long last. The CPU temp is useful, but the rest of the info doesn't mean anything to me. I noticed that some of the voltage readings fall outside of the min and max, and have ALARM next to them.
Should I be worried?

That should be enough? Yet, what is the amperage output for 12v, 5v, etc.? How many devices are you powering? CD, fans, etc.

what is the amperage output for 12v, 5v, etc.?
Not sure how I'd find that out, to be honest...
The PSU is currently powering two hard disks, dvd writer, pci NIC card and a ridiculous monster of a nvidia gfx card (two fans), plus the cpu fan and chipset fan (which tends to sound a bit 'growly').
Nothing too harcore, but I would guess that the nvidia card would be comsuming a LOT of power.
Are the readings I posted likely to damage anything? If I did get a bigger power supply, could I expect them to then fall within an acceptable range?

You do have a quite a bit on the power supply. You are right that video card is really consuming alot. Do your hard drives make noise?
You can look at the power supply it should say the amperage on the side.

hard drives don't make any noise, but the chipset fan does... especially when first booting up.
Here's the spec on my power supply -
+3.3V = 25A
+5V = 32A
+12V = 19A
-12V = 0.8A
+5VSB = 2A
edit: just took a closer look at things. if I start glxgears I can hear fans slowing down - as if they're struggling. If i stop it then they speed back up again!

Do you have system stats in BIOS that may help with settings ...
Get some cooling before you o/c that box lol

Hi green -
the same readings are reported in the BIOS, although there's so many options and menus there I'm almost afriad to touch anything.
Think I'll test a decent 550 on this setup to see what happens (although 430 should definitely be enough)... some nice people over at the coolermaster forum also suggested testing the true voltage with a multimeter, since if my +3.3V reading is really +6.46V then my system would be toast.

do you know the brand of the power supply
when i look to buy a power supply i look to antec i have got a 400true
this thing is really dead on with its stats and doesnt vary much from them
ive seen others fluxuate alot in thier readings (mostly cheap ones)
i know in the past you could bet on alot of problems
with a cheap power supply running an amd chip
did you build this yourself ? if so was the power supply pretty heavy (a few pounds)
or not that heavy maybe a pound
its not a true test on PS but its kinda true the heavier the better
its been my experience , im not a true techno geek just semi
at least thats what i tell people

does anyone know how lm_sensors comes up with the alarm range? Mine looks a little different from robot5x's. For example, look at the range on the -5V. It says that it should be between +4.03V and +4.03V. Mine says -7.06V, so it pops up an alarm. It's like that on a few other settings as well. Also Temp3, whatever that is, is supposedly 127 degrees celsius which is 260 degrees fahrenheit. Somehow, I don't believe this.

Most of the time you can disregard temp3 on most M/B.

On some M/B's the northbridge has a temp sensor and temp3 usually is that temp sensor.
