can boot system, / is ro (SOLVED)

I'm new, read a lot on the wiki's but am a t a loss. I'd luckerly done a full back up from a few days ago with the rsync backup so am up and running, but would like to know what I did wrong with the origional partition and fix it if possibe, otherwise copy i'd copy back the a few days out of date backup.

The system boots but the / partition is ro, and I think nothing works because of this ? Before I'd had it nicly running lxdm login manager and e17 etc.
I'd tried coping with the rsync backup method to another seperate partition to make sure it wasn't something wrong with the way grub was booting, but the heaviour was the same, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the install. I had installed a few things since, I'd done the backup

Heres the output from journalctl -b

Re: can boot system, / is ro (SOLVED)

You include a vast array of trouble shooting information ... but you never described the trouble.  The following is not very informative:

I think nothing works

That seems to be the only statement of a problem that I could find in your post.

What are the actual symptoms - what do you see when you turn your computer on, and do you get any error messages?

Re: can boot system, / is ro (SOLVED)

Sorry  and thanks for the reply

the computer boots very quickly to a terminal login only, before it would launch lxdm login manager. The networking is no longer working, although dhcp eth0 is started, it just didn't succeed, which is I think connected with that the / filesystem is mounted 'ro', which I'm understanding something must have gone wrong in the boot ? There are no visible errors except from the logs I've posted. Any help where to look/poke at to trouble shoot this, I'd like to learn what I did, and how to fix it, but don't quite know where to start.

Re: can boot system, / is ro (SOLVED)

Well first things first: can you remount / rw? If you can then double-check your fstab entry for /.

Re: can boot system, / is ro (SOLVED)

Sorry to waste everyones time... I just fixed it... and now feel like the bigest fool smile

basicly I'd had this in my /etc/fstab

UUID=379523cb-c124-4c8e-8dab-d659f3137e48	ext4      	rw,relat
ime,data=ordered	0 2

Instead of, with the / saying where I want to mount it

UUID=379523cb-c124-4c8e-8dab-d659f3137e48	/	ext4      	rw,relat
ime,data=ordered	0 2

Very careless of me... But I spent a long time on this and am laughing and quite happy now that it was me being flaky and not archLinux

thanks for your patcience

Re: can boot system, / is ro (SOLVED)

I hope that line break isn't there in the actual file, it'll cause problems if it is there. Also, you should have passno value of "1" for your root filesystem , not "2".

man fstab

Glad you got it sorted though. I assume that everything else is now working as expected?
