USB disk not mounting without root privileges

Hello,

Recently, after an update I wasnt able to mount my external usb disk, without having root privileges. I searched a little bit and decided to edit a file with entries like <allow_inactive>blah blah blah</allow_inactive>(sorry for the abstraction, I dont remeber its name). After the next update the file probably was overwritten and we start again with the same problem.

the dmseg log just after the failed mounting is here. Thanks in advance for any help.

Please read How to Ask Questions the Smart Way; yours is incredibly short on detail...

There are a heap of threads about this issue on the boards - I suggest you do some searching first, use the answers provided in those marked [Solved] and then report back with what you have tried--including more detail than "I don't remember..."

Re: USB disk not mounting without root privileges

Are you using systemd (if not, you should switch)?

Then run loginctl show-session $XDG_SESSION_ID and make sure you have active=yes.

Re: USB disk not mounting without root privileges

"However, we do not need to edit the XML - it will be overwritten by the update. Instead, we go to /etc/polkit-1/localauthority . You'll find directories 10-vendor.d 20-org.d 30-site.d 50-local.d 90-mandatory.d . In these directories are located PolicyKit configuration files. The user should save your files to 50-local.d ."
