Hi, I've resized the Window 8 main partition (the largest of the partitions) on my new laptop's GPT-formatted hard drive using Gparted (I connected the drive to my Arch box).
After resizing the partitions, Windows 8 is no longer bootable. Attempting to boot shows the message "Operating System Not Found".
All the partitions are visible in Gparted (or so it seems).
The data appears to be intact:
┌─[14:27:19/starlancer/amadar/~]
└─╼ sudo gdisk -l /dev/sdb
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.5
Partition table scan:
MBR: protective
BSD: not present
APM: not present
GPT: present
Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.
Disk /dev/sdb: 1465149168 sectors, 698.6 GiB
Logical sector size: 512 bytes
Disk identifier (GUID): D9245330-EF43-4FF2-938D-AA320C555F34
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 1465149134
Partitions will be aligned on 2048-sector boundaries
Total free space is 1282979501 sectors (611.8 GiB)
Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
1 2048 534527 260.0 MiB FFFF EFI system partition
2 534528 3553279 1.4 GiB 2700 Basic data partition
3 3553280 4085759 260.0 MiB EF00 EFI system partition
4 4085760 4347903 128.0 MiB 0C01 Microsoft reserved part
5 4347904 106747903 48.8 GiB 0700 Basic data partition
6 106747904 182171647 36.0 GiB 2700 Basic data partition
Any idea how to fix it or any idea how to resize the partitions the proper way without losing bootability in the first place?
(The goal here is to have a working Win 8 disk who's partitions been shrunken so that the disk can be cloned to smaller drives and still be bootable. I've a;ready solved how to clone to a smaller drive my previous thread (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=154057), but that doesn't solve the problem of Windows becoming unbootable.)

I think you need to ask this on a Windows 8 forum.
Windows' resize partition utility would generally be the best tool to use here. Though that's never been particularly brilliant.

I could see what you mean about asking in a Windows forum, but I'm trying to do the whole thing from Arch, so it's a Linux thing too.
Too bad I didn't try Window's partition utility. I don't have a bootable Win 8 to try it in.
I'm almost tempted to just write my Arch setup onto the disk and scrap Windows so that my Arch can have a nice and large new home.

This is a Windows support thread, which--given we don't support other Linux distros--is not going to work here.
Closing.
