Default login after install

(I hope this goes here...)

Hi all,
I'm new to Arch Linux, although I've been using various distros for the past ~ year, so I can do most basic stuff in Linux.  However, I can't login to my new install. 

I've tried root (Incorrect login), everything I can think of related to Arch Linux, the machine name, etc (these all result in no known user).

How can I log in successfully to add a new user?

It helps if the root filesystem is mounted correctly.
