Hello,
my notebook gets a bit hot I think.
Yesterday sensors said it would be approx. 80°C. So I decided to disassemble it and to clean the cooler. At the moment no one is working on it but its at 58°C - Isnt that a bit high?
(at least I think, that "acpitz-virtual-0" refers to the cpu temp)
The question is, what the problem is. Is the sensor reliable? Is it due to the heat transfer paste (which I can't believe since I never had such a problem). My desktop is at 40°C but this could be due to a "bigger" cooler couldnt it?
So does anybody have an advice for me?

Are you using cpu throttling? If not, then 58c on idle is more or less normal on a laptop.

What should be a approximate value for temperature when the cpu is operating under full power?

Most laptops these days have sub-optimal heat dissipation, so using any form of throttling is usually a good idea. Under load, most laptops will reach their thermal maximums quite quickly, which is roughly around ~100c. They will then throttle down themselves automatically.
What is the frequency of your cpu during idle?

Since I'm not throttling at all the frequency should stay at
cpu MHz : 2100.000
shouldnt it?

Yes, but it might be good to check that just in case, because if your cpu is actually throttling down on a kernel level, then 58c would be relatively high. Cpu throttling is a kernel default nowadays, but since you have an older AMD processor it may require extra manual configuration. In general, it's always a good idea to use throttling, unless you have specific reasons why you want it to run at full speed all the time.

Ok I figured out that throttling is acitve. During idle the frequency is 800MHz else its 2100MHz.
So the 55°C are exceeded with only 800MHz - isnt that a bit weird?

Yes that could be a little hot for 800Mhz, i think most mobile cpu's run between 40-50c on that frequency. Are you using the open source gpu drivers? It could be that your gpu is driving up the temperature inside the laptop.

Uhm I've installed xf86-video-ati. I dont know, but is the k10temp-pci-00c3 the gpu temperature? If so its unlikely that the gpu is the problem

I don't know what the labels stand for, sorry.. It could be that your particular branch/model of cpu is expected to run a little hotter than other cpu's, but i don't know enough about cpu architectures to say anything useful about that. In any case, ~60c is not problematic, so it should not be something to be alarmed about at this point in time. I would keep an eye on it, if the idle temperature keeps increasing over time then something is not right.
