[solved/work around] Email maintainer w/o directly from AUR?

In the forums, it is possible to email another user directly i.e. from within the forum site itself. Is it possible to email the maintainer of an AUR package in a similar way?

I ask because I posted a (very minor) patch for a package and then read that that is exactly the sort of thing which I am not supposed to do and that I should email it to the maintainer instead.

I could just explain what I did in a comment but that would take up as much space as the patch, I think.

You can email another user directly on the forum if that user has enabled it in his or her settings. You will see an email link on the profile page and beside each post by that user. The email will be sent by the forum with your registration email address set as the reply address.

When you are logged in on the AUR then you should be able to email package maintainers directly as well.

Waaait a minute... Doesn't every maintainer put their name and email address at the top of the top of the PKGBUILD file? I do in mine. smile

Can you use the email address from the PKGBUILD file?

Re: [solved/work around] Email maintainer w/o directly from AUR?

For some reason that didn't even occur to me. Anyway, that's what I did. I couldn't figure out how to do it from the website despite what Xyne said. I can see the links on the forums to email people. That's no problem. But I can't for the AUR even when logged in. Not sure why not but no such links are apparent in that case.

Anyway, PKGBUILD is a perfectly acceptable work around.

Thanks.

EDIT: And even if there is a user with the same user name on the forums, there is no guarantee it is the same person...

Click on the Maintainer link e.g. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/bash … functions/ to see the maintainer's profile: https://aur.archlinux.org/account/Xyne

You're right about different usernames for the forums and AUR (and the wiki and the bugtracker).

Re: [solved/work around] Email maintainer w/o directly from AUR?

Oh, I see. Sorry. When Xyne mentioned the forums and then AUR I was looking for a similar "Email" link and couldn't see where to find it from the package's page. (And then the PKGBUILD was mentioned and that seemed easy and worked instantly - even if I did feel a bit idiotic for not thinking of that myself. So I didn't search very hard for the elusive link on the package's page!)

Thanks.

[I know about the names because I could not use the same username when I set up an AUR account as I use on the forums as somebody had already taken "my" name sad.)
