on to X and KDE

k, so now i need to configure X to run kde. i did an xf86cfg and did what i thought i had to do, but when i got to startx, it just failed with mouse and monitor errors. i think i'd try to edit the configuration file, so if anyone can post default one and hint me on what to add for this hardware:

monitor - viewsonic gs 773 17inch
video - ati rage pro 4mb agp 1x/2x (onboard)
dell wheel mouse, keyboard

anything would help, thx...

Re: on to X and KDE

how is it defined?  (hehe...noticed that you said what your mouse was in orginal post.  sorry.)

Mine is a IMPS/2 and it's defined as

Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

Re: on to X and KDE

search the arch forums and I'm sure you'll find lots of XF86Configs... Failing that there is loads of documentation on XFree86 configuration on the web.

also getting the hwd package from incoming will auto-detect and make you a base XF86Config file if you don't know much about XF86. Just ftp to ftp.archlinux.org and look in the incoming directory for it.

Re: on to X and KDE

you should be able to use my settings for your wheel mouse (unless it's usb).

just add those lines to your /etc/X11/XF86Config file under the mouse section.
