ACPID is still needed?

After some time without using Arch Linux decided to return. Well, I always write down my whole installation process if need to reinstall my notebook. Following my old notes, I saw that at the time of Gnome 2 I used the ACPID and CPU-FREQUTILS and the new installation guide they are not mentioned, even there is something in the Wiki Gnome3 saying that Gnome and ACPID may conflict. I would like to confirm that it really is not necessary to install the CPU and ACPID-FREQUTILS (which became CPU-POWER). Detail that my computer seems to be ok.

Thanks and sorry my bad english (was with the help of google translator)

Re: ACPID is still needed?

If you used acpid to manage power buttons, it's functionality has been deprecated by systemd-logind.
Actions based on power state (AC/pluged-in) can be replicated by udev rules.
Cpu power is not needed because default governor with latest kernels is ondemand and cpu frequency driver gets loaded automatically.

Re: ACPID is still needed?

Do not use any custom action. He wore acpid and cpufreq only to conserve battery power.

Re: ACPID is still needed?

You might still want them even if you don't need them. cpupower can be used to give you information about your cpu(s) power settings. acpid is used by, for example, laptop-mode-tools.

Not to say you need them or should install them. Just what they provide includes more than systemd/default power governor.

Re: ACPID is still needed?

I do not have acpid. I use the powersaver script for conserving battery power. It uses udev rules for AC events. I had acpid installed, which I previously used for brightness keys. But I have since migrated to a power manager that handles these functions. So no. I do not think its needed.

Edit: Removed acpid and updated post

Re: ACPID is still needed?

Acpid is still needed if you need to react to arbitrary acpi events with an arbitrary action. Many things correspond to an acpi event in my laptop (including some hardware hotkeys, e.g. to eject the cd tray). Some keys actually generate both an acpi event and an X keycode, but then I prefer to "bind" them as acpi event since in this way they work even in the console. Moreover, I would not say that any function of acpid has been "deprecated" by systemd: systemd has merely provided an alternative.
