lxappearance, can't change color

Hi, I have installed lxappearance and a couple theme packages from official rep. I had lxappearance before when I was using lubuntu and I could change colors, but on my arch setup with openbox standalone, I can't change the colors in lxappearance.

edit: I tried another theme and I was able to change the color but the color doesn't stay and doesn't appear on other windows... can anyone help me with this please, thank you

Re: lxappearance, can't change color

Are you talking about gtk2 or gtk3?

For gtk3, I change the colors in the $HOME/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini file:

[Settings]
gtk-theme-name = oxygen-gtk
gtk-color-scheme = "fg_color: #000;bg_color: #F4E6CE;text_color: #000;base_color: #FDFCFA;selected_bg_color: #74B150;selected_fg_color: #FFF;tooltip_bg_color: #AAFAB4;tooltip_fg_color: #000"
gtk-font-name = DejaVu Sans 10

I will post how I do that for gtk2, if it is what you are looking for.

Happy new year!

Re: lxappearance, can't change color

I'm not sure ...I'm still pretty new and I have trouble to make the difference between the 2, I have both folders gtk2 and gtk3 so I don't know what I'm using ..

Do you have a GTK2_RC_FILES environment variable?

Re: lxappearance, can't change color

If you are speaking of the openbox color theme you've selected, they are hard coded in the themerc file of the theme.

You need the lxappearance-obconf package to configure openbox with lxappearance.
Or you can create another theme from a copy of the selected theme, and edit the colors manually in the themerc file.

For other gtk applis you may use, it depends on the appli:
firefox uses gtk2
nautilus uses gtk3.

Re: lxappearance, can't change color

I don't know why but color settings from .gtkrc does not apply to theme, unless you use pure lxde...

I just did these steps (to Zukitwo):
1. Save your desired color settings in lxappearance.
2. Copy the entire "gtk-color-scheme="tooltip_fg_color:#000000\nlink_color:#08c\nbase_color:#F7F7F7\nselected_fg_color:#f5f5f5\ntext_color:#2c2c2c\nbg_color_dark:#383838\ntext_color_dark:#FFF\nbg_color:#cccccccccccc\ntooltip_bg_color:#df1bdf1bdf1b\nselected_bg_color:#999999999999\nfg_color:#2c2c2c\n"" from the bottom of ~/.gtkrc.
3. In /usr/share/themes/Zukitwo/gtk-3.0/settings.ini replace the settings with yours.
4. In /usr/share/themes/Zukitwo/gtk-2.0/gtkrc comment all the gtk_color_scheme lines and paste your settings, replace gtk-color-scheme with  gtk_color_scheme !

That's it!
