Hello, my windows in Gnome lags when I move them while I have a jpg or svg wallpaper set, the tiled png ones that comes with Gnome doesn't make it lag. Also, when I choose to not have a wallpaper at all it doesn't lag.
This only happens when the desktop is visible, if I have firefox opened in fullscreen and then move a window it flows on nice...
Any suggestions, please?

What WM are you using? If it's Metacity, try something else.

I'm using metacity and I have no lag. Strange.

Well, just to test I could try chaneing WM... I'm new to gnome though, didn't actually know you could change the WM in and keep the DE... So, how do I do it, any suggestions on what I should try instead?
edit: Found sawfish with pacman, it didn't solve my problem however.

Hi,
I have same problem.

to change the wm press alt and f2 to open the run dialogue
the type openbox --replace or the name of the wm you want to replace metacity

Same problem here. Strangely, it looks like my PC is much more responsive in many aspects since the "big upgrade", except for this single problem.

Openbox lags as well, so it's not metacity related I guess... Maybe I should report this to gnome as a bug instead, seems to be a common problem...

I've also had this problem since the "big" upgrade. Doesn't really bother me, as I rarely use GNOME, but there's certainly an issue.

I noticed this slow stuff with gnome 2.11 before, they fixed most of the issues. The problem is somewhere in the cairo library, but I think it is even deeper located: the XRender implementation in Xorg is full of bugs. Nobody ever cared about those because nobody was able to find them, but with the recent GTK 2.8/cairo switch, these RENDER bugs get uncovered one by one

Hi i just posted a thread i think my problems are similar?
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=16259
you know how i mentioned frugalware? well they are sticking to cairo-0.8 still maybe this is the reason? its so fast on that distro!
update: they seemed to have switched to 1.0.2 now but i remember asking them and they had 0.8 before but now ive formatted my frugal partition to install arch so i cant test :-( damn it!
