[Solved] Can't setup sound (noob)

Hello arch users! I've previously used arch but uninstalled it and had fun with Mageia for a while. I've just decided to turn back to arch and noticed everything is alot different.
I've installed a simple system, I'm actually using arch to type this post out at the moment.
I installed the base system, xorg and its components(drivers), openbox, and alsa.
However my sound doesn't work and I have no idea how to fix it. My computer is a lenovo y580 if that helps a bit on the hardware.

There is a good alsa page on the arch wiki with many troubleshooting/diagnostic steps.  Work through that, and if it doesn't solve the problem, come back with the output/results of the commands/tests.

I figured it out! I looked at the archwiki. The first thing to type in was the command to unmute the master volume which is

amixer sset Master unmute

lol I feel like such a loser it was that simple but thanks! This forum is amazing!

Please do what you can to keep it that way. Reading the wiki thoroughly and carefully before posting is one way to assist with that...
