Asus Eee PC - battery stops charging on ~90%

Hi. I have Eee PC 1000H. It worked fine until the last system reinstallation. Full loaded battery was enough for ~2h 50m of work. Now charging stops when it reachs ~90%. Conky says, that charge time is "unknown". And this 90% is enough only for ~1h 50m. I don't think this is hardware problem.

There is a difference between "full capacity" and "design capacity".  As batteries age the full capacity drops.  This is normal.  The I3 status bar, for example, allows you to toggle between full and design, but IMHO it's better to see the full capacity.

So this is a hardware issue, and my laptop will try to charge the battery unless it's charged to "design capacity", but it will never happen?

If it stays at 90% all the time, it's at 100% of it's current charge capacity.  It's just how the software reports the status.

Re: Asus Eee PC - battery stops charging on ~90%

You should be able to see the health of your battery like this

$ acpi -b -i
Battery 0: Full, 100%
Battery 0: design capacity 4400 mAh, last full capacity 3873 mAh = 88%

If your laptop refuses to charge to 100%, the capacitors in the charging circuit might just need some love.  You might try the following:
1) Shutdown the laptop
2) Unplug the charger
3) Disconnect / remove the battery
4) Without any battery or charger connected, hold down the power button for at least 60 seconds
5) Reinsert the battery
6) Plug in the charger
7) Reboot
See if the battery eventually charges to 100% again.
