xcompmgr and gdesklets

After a really hefty update (almost 500MB), I was expecting at least some conflicts or errors, but instead everything went smoothly. Great job packagers!

But I have one minor peeve. After the update, the gdesklets daemon refuses to make the desklets transparent (transparent as in having a transparent background), despite the fact that I'm running xcompmgr (which works as it used to, transset works fine) and I've enabled XComposite support from the daemon. Is anyone else experiencing similiar issues? I'm using Gnome 2.12/x.org 11R6.8.2-6 with the proprietary NVidia drivers, AllowGLXWithComposite/RenderAccel true with Composite and RENDER extension in xorg.conf.

Alternatively, is there another method to make the desklets transparent? I wouldn't be running xcompmgr otherwise as it causes problems with some SDL/GL programs.

Re: xcompmgr and gdesklets

gDesklets supports fake transparency fine last time I used it. I'd say try turning off the Composite option and kill xcompmgr and restart gDesklets.

I am having the same problem as alanmies. I have the composite extension disabled but no go.  Somehow I have to resort to a solid color background and a hard-coded color in the starterbar.display file. So once I change the background it looks similar to this:

Hmmm, I haven't used gDesklets for a while but have you posted this in their forums? You'd probably get a more helpful response there, I could point you in the direction of adesklets but... wink
