Hi, I'm using xfce4 with alsa and I am able to make the laptop sound work but the headphone jack won't send sound to the headphones even though it will shut off sound to the laptop.
file configuration for /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
blacklist snd_intel18x0m
For inserting the model I have tried laptop, 3stack, generic (which worked for a little bit and stopped working), dell-m6, dell-vostro.
Any ideas for making headphones work for a Dell Latitude D420/430? Audio controller listed in the bios is Sigmatel 9200.

Do you have the xfce-mixer? The output for headphone, and speaker are separate.
Maybe try alsamixer.
I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...
Look ma, no mouse.
