Automount NTFS drive without dropping it from Nautilus?

I've got something of a two-pronged question here.

One, it's bee a long, long time since I touched fstab. I added

/dev/sdc1	/mnt/data	ntfs-3g uid=patrick,gid=users 0	0

to attempt an automount and systemd dropped me into recovery mode after failing to mount it (which, btw, doesn't seem to work properly. It asks me for my root password, but doesn't actually respond to any typed input.)

Two, when I do try to manually mount it, the nice udev shortcut drops out of Nautilus (I'm assuming that's udev). I'd like to just have it auto-authenticate, auto-mount, and generally make that drive accessible with that nice graphical convenience without me having to click on it, give my password, etc.

For reference, I'm trying to establish a solid mount point for this drive because my main drives are SSD's and this is my magnetic. I have my dropbox folder there, so when it doesn't mount properly at boot, dropbox throws a fit.

Any and all help will be much appreciated. smile

Have you checked out the fstab page on the wiki?

Second, why not just add a bookmark in nautilus to the mount point?

I hadn't read over the fstab wiki page thoroughly, no, but I also think my fstab line looks sound. Just hoping someone can tell me if I'm wrong.

And I didn't actually know Nautilus could bookmark. I don't bookmark anything, haha. But wouldn't it stand to reason that I should sustain the work being done for me by having the automount authenticate itself?

Try adding nofail to the list of options.

Also is this a partition on an internal disk or an external disk (USB)? If the latter, consider using udevil to automount it.
