Strange Conky Problem: Date not displaying

Maybe because I am tired or just losing it but this bit of code I copied from the wiki isn't working. I am using conky to pipe it through xsetroot to display in dwm. The cpu part works fine but the date line just displays ${time %a etc... }

total_run_times 0
use_spacer none

I just tested it.  It worked fine for me.

Edit: And you put this in .conkyrc, right?  Are you using your .xinitrc to pipe it into dwm's bar?  Post your .xinitrc here too.

Thanks for the reply but in the span it took you to answer I switched back to awesome because I just didn't want to handle all the new configuration. Thank you for the reply.
