Problems after messing with pacnews

Hi guys.
I am very new to linux systems (in terms of experience) so i humbly ask you for help.
After many updates i noticed pacman's notes about .pacnews and acquaint myself with wiki article on it.
So i decided to try and 'sudo yaourt -C' this.
I dunno why but i thought that 'R' in

Action: [E]dit, [R]eplace, [S]uppress, [C]ontinue (default), [A]bort ?

was a nice thing to dispose of those useless .pacnews (i carefully compare them with Kompare) and happily applied it to this list till the 'shadow.pacnew' including:

1 11/22/2012 06:20:58 PM  /etc/fstab.pacnew
2 12/04/2012 05:02:24 AM  /etc/group.pacnew
3 12/04/2012 05:02:24 AM  /etc/gshadow.pacnew
4 12/04/2012 05:02:24 AM  /etc/passwd.pacnew
5 12/04/2012 05:02:24 AM  /etc/shadow.pacnew
6 12/26/2012 02:23:54 PM  /etc/locale.gen.pacnew
7 02/03/2013 04:22:20 AM  /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.pacnew

After that i accidently opened new Konsole window and stumble on '[I have no name!@arch ~]$' here. Since things started to look very fishy i tried 'sudo' and 'login' to gain root access and try to fix things but 'sudo: unknown uid 1000: who are you?' and silence were the accordingly response i get, and then i realised that i actually replaced my files with the default .pacnew ones.
So while my system's still working i came here for help - since i don't really know is my system's still recoverable and what should i do to fix all that mess.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Re: Problems after messing with pacnews

Everything you describe sounds like a yaourt problem, not a pacnew problem, but am I understanding the end result right that you properly handled all of the pacnews *except* shadow.pacnew?

If so, see `man pwconv` to restore shadow.

Well, one really can interpret [R]eplace here

==> .pacnew: /etc/fstab
==> Action: [E]dit, [R]eplace, [S]uppress, [C]ontinue (default), [A]bort ?

as 'replace pacnews with the old files aka delete them' (and that was actually an option i was searching for, but failed and confused it with [R]eplace) but it also was my mistake for hastening things and not properly reading what have been right before my eyes in the Konsole's output.

Unfortunately no, writing this in a hurry i probably did not made it clear - i actually replaced all these (i.e. originals) files except 'locale.gen' and 'mirrorlist' with the .pacnew's and that's a very big problem as i understand now.
