Underclocking a GeFroce 8600M GS?

Hi,

I have a laptop with a 8600M GS inside. It runs very hot, I don't need the power and I would like to preserve it from dying the way 8600M die.

I am not running any GUI, everything is done over SSH as the laptop has a cracked LCD so I wouldn't mind under clocking the GPU to have it run cooler.

Any advice?

Can you not switch it off entirely at all? It's not something I know much about, just an idea since it's possible with Bumblebee and bbswitch, although they might only be for Optimus graphics (worth a try?)
