[SOLVED] Problem with h264 gpu decoding in VLC after upgrade

Hello,

after system upgrade turning on gpu-decoding causes black screen in playing videos with h264 codec, only sound is available
downgrading to
extra/vlc    2.0.5-2    2 <- 3
extra/x264   20121113-1 <- 20130206-1
extra/ffmpeg 1:1.0.1-1  <- 1:1.1.2-2
seems to fix the problem

but are there any other solutions?

videocard - nvidia geforce gt 420m

Re: [SOLVED] Problem with h264 gpu decoding in VLC after upgrade

Confirming this issue. Using a gtx 570 using nvidia driver.

For me, wmv files have normal video but loud static for audio with this error every second or so:
[wmav2 @ 0x7f04dcc4c460] output buffer size is too small for the current frame (192000 < 196608)

Also .mp4 files give this error a few times:
libva info: VA-API version 0.33.0
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so
libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1

After which this message is spammed continuously:
Maximum number of clients reached

.avi files work fine.

Downgrading all 3 packages solves the problem. Downgrading just ffmpeg and x264 won't allow vlc to play any video.

This looks like the typical replies to a bug report, so you should probably file one instead of posting here. Lots of devs don't frequent the forums after all wink

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

New update to ffmpeg fixes this issue for me.

Same here.

I still have the same problem on the current versions using a Geforce GTX570.
- Maximum number of clients reached - every time I try to start any other application; happens sporadically
- Loud noise out of the speakers while spamming: output buffer size is too small for the current frame (192000 < xxx)

Downgrading as suggested in the first post solves the issue.
