How to update Dell laptop's BIOS?

Hi all,

I followed this tutorial: http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Te … BiosUpdate

I have a Dell laptop:

[root@localhost i-sty]# smbios-sys-info-lite
Libsmbios: 2.2.28
System ID: 0x0569
Service Tag: HNYCFV1
Express Service Code: 38453709133
Error getting the Aset Tag: unknown error
Product Name: Inspiron 5520
BIOS Version: A11
Vendor: Dell Inc.
Is Dell: 1

But I cant find .hdr file here: http://linux.dell.com/repo/firmware/bios-hdrs/ with MY System ID.

My bios version is A11, the newest is A13.

Re: How to update Dell laptop's BIOS?

Try these instructions:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fl … from_Linux

However for your BIOS: search Dell Support for Downloads for the Inspiron 5520, download the BIOS update (Inspiron_5520_A13), extract it, and the QCL00A13.fd file should be the BIOS image.

BTW I am not liability if this bricks your laptop. Follow my advice at your own risk. Good luck.

I have used the freeDOS method before, and it worked fabulously.
