video problems with ati drivers

hello people,
I'be just build the latest fglrx drivers from ati, using the aur pkguild and archck8 kernel,
and for the very 1st time the 3d acceleration seems to work, BUT every file video that i open with xine/mplayer is very very slow; picture/sound distorsion, frame dropping..
Does someone else have such a problem? could it be a configuration issue?

AFAIK the fglrx drivers let you turn on either 3D acceleration or Xvideo overlay, but not both at the same time.
