Hi!
I have this quite new laptop (with intel HD4000 GPU, no nvidia), and the screen flickers randomly, if there's no external display connected. I'm using KDE, but I think I saw the flickering during startup/shutdown as well (plain console, but KMS set up the resolution). I tried a lot of things (KWin effect setting, intel x driver settings, intel kernel module settings), but I never managed to fix it. I use this laptop since the middle of December, and I always have this problem. The only thing that fixes the problem, if I set up an external display (hdmi or miniDvi).

If anyone's intrested: It turned out it was a hardware problem. Changing the mainboard fixed it.
