Memory usage on XFCE with Nvidia proprietary driver and Nouveau.

Can someone explain me why XFCE (4.10) is using 1~5% of RAM (1.5GB minus 128MB of shared VRAM) with the Nouveau driver and around 15~25% of RAM with the Nvidia proprietary driver (304-xx)?

Im a little confused, if someone needs more info about the machine, please let me know what to do.
Thanks.

Re: Memory usage on XFCE with Nvidia proprietary driver and Nouveau.

I think the problem is the library Cairo being loaded on every application using libGL, I don't understand so well, but here are some outputs:

$ lsof /usr/lib/libcairo.so
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
xfce4-ses 401 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
xfwm4 415 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
xfce4-pan 419 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
Thunar 421 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
xfdesktop 423 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
xfce4-pow 430 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
xfsetting 434 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
panel-6-s 436 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
panel-2-a 438 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
firefox 644 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14
xfce4-ter 685 axgs mem REG 8,2 1241024 554338 /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.11200.14

Is the cairo package builded with gl? Because there are some posts about problems with that:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/725434
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.p … 22749.html

But they are a little old...
