[SOLVED]Failed to lookup alias 'nvidia' (X server dies during startop)

Hello there everybody.
I recenly reinstalled Arch so that I could have a nice, clean install, and also because I though I was having trouble with the systemd migration.  I think I was wrong there.
I successfully installed using the February 1st cd.  Since that time, I have been unable to boot into a graphical system.
I have the current proprietary nvidia drivers installed - I tried with an older set with no change, and I tried the Nouveau drivers and got as far as a blinking cursor on TTY7 (but similar X server errors), so I abandoned that route (I want the proprietary drivers).

systemctl status kdm

returns

kdm.service - K Display Manager
          Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/kdm.service; enabled)
Active: active (running) since Sat 2013-03-23 08:42:09 EDT; 19 min ago
        Main PID: 289 (kdm)
          CGroup: name=systemd:/systemd/kdm.service
                  └─289 /usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon

Mar 23 08:42:10 awesomeDelicious kdm[289]: X server for display :0 cannot be started, session disabled

Following advice on another thread, I issued

echo 'nvidia' >> /etc/modules-load.d/nvidia.conf

but I don't think that helps at all, as

/lib/systemd/systemd-modules-load

returns

Failed to lookup alias 'nvidia': Function not implemented

so I am currently at a loss.  I'd like to be able to get back into KDE as soon as I can, so any help is much appreciated!

...so I seem to have a problem with ABI version?
A quick search shows that some people have fixed this with an ignoreABI option somewhere, is this advisable, and how would I accomplish it?
Anyway yes further advice please!

Re: [SOLVED]Failed to lookup alias 'nvidia' (X server dies during startop)

The nvidia driver you're currently using doesn't support your current x server version.

If you wan't you can try that quick-fix and wait until a new NVIDIA driver gets upstreamd or you can downgrade you xorg server.

Hmm...it appears that it depends on the card then.  I did a quick google search just out of curiosity, as I have been seeing the same ABI error for a bit now.  It seems in my case, though, it works fine (minus the message)

Re: [SOLVED]Failed to lookup alias 'nvidia' (X server dies during startop)

I've tried the ignoreABI option in the places various threads have suggested, to no avail.  If anyone can give me specific definite instructions that would be cool.
I've also downgraded my xorg server from 1.14 to 1.12, via packages in the AUR, also to no avail.
I even tried using the vesa driver, which got me a graphical KDM and a frozen computer (could not switch virtual consoles, no response to anything).
I'll try downgrading to xorg-server1.10, but it seems to me that if a downgrade was going to help, it would have when I downgraded to 1.12.
Anyway, I will keep trying things, and further advice is always appreciated.

Re: [SOLVED]Failed to lookup alias 'nvidia' (X server dies during startop)

I gess you can also try searching AUR for a diferent version of nvidia drivers and substitute yours with it, to see if it fixes something.

Re: [SOLVED]Failed to lookup alias 'nvidia' (X server dies during startop)

I'll mark this solved, as installing the nouveau and xf86-video-nv drivers both solved the X problem, and led me as far as the no-input problem.
A full reinstall using the Beginner's Guide instead of the Install Guide made everything all better (I'm not a beginner, really!).
