E-panel (for e17) anyone knows about this?

Hi!

I have signed up for the mailinglists over @ get-e.org (and the other sites)

and now there are floating a lot of ideas regarding a e-panel.

This e-panel should work in a similar way like the gnome-panel / perl-panel and so on...

I really want a e-panel that could capture my running programs in the taskbar, so far, I haven't been able to set up either pypanel/perlpanel nor gnome-panel to capture running programs in E17, so this is a reason for me wanting to have something like an e-panel

If i could program this myself, i would have, although, I can not pogram very well, (i am learning gtk for the moment) and I have no idea how to code for e17...

anyone else willing to be part of this? and try and make a e-panel?

Re: E-panel (for e17) anyone knows about this?

Personally, I'm not sure that it would be a good idea at the moment. It would probably require updating pretty often as the codebase changed. The way something like pypanel works is window managers broadcast information about the windows they are managing. The panel picks these up and displays them accordingly. Most window managers conform to one standard or another and this is how the various panels (and pagers) know what to do. The fact that no existing panels work with E17 is a bit of a giveaway that it doesn't conform to any standards as of yet. I believe on completion it will conform to the EWMH standards and at that time, most standard panels will work fine.

Now I could be wrong on some of that, I just chucked it together based on stuff I have heard here and there and guessed out the gaps..

Re: E-panel (for e17) anyone knows about this?

ok

i do find it strange that they don't try and make the wm EWMH compliant from the start...this is actually the only thing I miss in e17, the possibility to have a taskbar that captures the running programs (I know that engage can do it, but I do not like the way is handles it)

so that is why I was asking about the panel, it might not be done now, but later it might be nice to have a module that does this, I have however no idea how to make it...

I tried to combine two modules today, (mostly cut and paste), but it wouldn't work..:(
