Camera is now a hard drive

I use the KDE "storage media applet". Last week I plugged in my Fuji A350 camera, up popped the "flash stick" in kicker, I mounted it, got the pics with digicam, then "remove safely".

Last night I plugged the camera in and the storage applet icon popped up as "Hard Disk (sda1), Unmounted hard disk volume". Which is fine, as I can use the "unmount" option but I quite like the "safely remove option" as this also got displayed on the camera LCD.

Apart from pacman updates, I did change from 2.6.13-ck1 to -ck8 kernel. I haven't formated the XD card since last month.

My USB flash drive is just fine, so here is the relevant info for both. Not sure if it's kernel, udev, hotplug, or kde. The flash disk is "S: Product=Flash Disk" and the Camera is "S:Product=USB Mass storage", but why did my camera act like a flash disk last week, and how can I get it to act like one now?,
