pacman -Syu gave error that nvidia-bumblebee needs kernel 3.8 so after reading the forum, I followed a "solution" and uninstalled nvidia-bumblee, updated the system and rebooted and reinstalled nivida-bumblebee. But now X not even starts. How can I repair this?
i cant copy the error message in here since i have no gui/mouse. but when starting slim or x it says basically:
Loading Extension GLX
(WW) Nvidia: This server has an unsupported input driver ABI version (have 19.1 need < 19.0)
modprobe error: could not insert nvidia, no such device
i dont understand why x doesnt even start, cause it should use the intel graphics until nvidia card gets actually activated via primusrun.
I tried pacman -Ufd xorg1.13.. package, since that ABI prob is probably from latest Xorg, but although pacman man page claims that -f forces and -d ignores dependencies, this command will still say that xorg cannot downgrade because of xf86-input-event depending on it blabla.. God I'm sooo stupid, I KNEW that usually every 3rd pacman full system upgrade breaks the system in some way, WHYYY did i not make a backup this time.
Main question apart from the nvidia-bumblebee stuff is: Why does X complain about the nvidia driver instead of just starting on the intel graphics as always, and how to make it start again? the nivida card is usually disabled anyway until it gets enabled by primusrun.
I just deinstalled nvidia-bumblebee, but X ignores that and still complains about the same stuff and wont start up.
Ok, I tried to edit xorg conf file and replaced "nvidia" by "intel", but now slim and X have super low resolutions, it doesnt offer any option except 640x480 (should be 1920x1080). Why? They always booted up using the integrated intel graphics chip, even long before i installed bumblebee. So why does X now that i remove nvidia-bumblebee again not simply start up just as it used to? i mean all this time the nvidia card is DISABLED, so there shouldnt be ANY change to normal operation, except that primusrun command would fail, no?
I edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf and added a section ServerFlags that has option IgnoreABI, but it seems X11 ignores this option because the same ABI error pops up still.
xorg.0.log even says "ignoring abi" so the option was recognized, but it just follows up with the ABI complaint =P is X11 broken there?
so I just downgraded X11 and it no longer complains about ABI stuff, however it still doesnt start. xorg.0.log says:
(EE) no devices detected
fatal server error:
no screens found
So i have downgraded x11, the xorg.conf is the same as before, just nvidia-bumblebee and nvidia-utils-bumblebee and kernel are up to date, why is X not starting up but giving this cryptic error? this linux system should be exactly in the state in which it was previously working properly, no?
I just updated all X packages again since downgrading didnt fix the problem anyway. The xorg log does complain about the ABI version again, but otoh it says it continues loading (it said so all the time, nothing new here). but this made me wonder whether maybe the ABI/X11 isn't faulty, but the kernel or the nvidia-bumblebee is? which modules should be loaded/how can I check this problem in more detail?

What the heck, it's a GTX 660M, why is it not supported? oO I wonder whether this message is actually correct or just some other bug causing this message.
After wasting hours on this shit I finally found some postings on devtalk.nvidia.com that suggest that the nvidia drivers are incompatible to 3.8 kernels. So I guess the only way atm is to downgrade the kernel to 3.7 somehow.
Ok I downgraded kernel, X, and nvidia drivers, guess what? X still not loads, and the nvidia driver still says in dmesg that it doesnt support the hardware. But it worked until yesterday =P well any idea how to fix this shit, I mean what is wrong with this whole system design? I have to google/search for hours just to undo an automatic update that bricked my system.. AGAIN? Isn't there a better way that doesnt waste time and resources? I'm that close to just formatting this bullshit of a system and putting Windows on it so it at least WORKS. Why isn't there even a basic way of undoing the system update? Is it really needed to do a manual backup before every fucking pacman -Syu?

Ok! Unrage incoming: I just deleted xorg.conf and just from that X works again and even switching via primusrun and using the dedicated card works again too.
It's "funny" how after 8 hours of googling and reading wikis/forums something random and trivial as this fixes it, wtf?
