Roll up, roll up, bring your pacman scripts, one and all.

Howdy everyone.

I've made this thread in the hope that everyone who has a pacman script of use could post it, with a brief explanation of its functionality and any parameters it requires. I'm aware that a search through the forums will most likely reveal any specific scripts needed by an archuser, but I thought an amalagamation of them all would be useful, since there are no doubt scripts out there that would be highly beneficial to users, but they are simply unaware that said scripts exist . Of particular use would be scripts to remove any unnecessary packages left on an arch system, dependency checkers etc... the usual stuff. tongue

EDIT: Note that the best place to find scripts for Arch is in the wiki; any scripts added here should be added there too, if possible. Thanks!

Please post using the following format, for ease of browsing:

USE: [ what the script can be used for ]
OPTIONS: [ any parameters or switches that may be added when running the script from CLI ]
SCRIPT: [ the script content itself, displayed in code ... /code tags please wink  ]

Someone get the ball rolling! big_smile

Re: Roll up, roll up, bring your pacman scripts, one and all.

I'm aware of the Scripts section in the wiki Dusty, but hoped that more scripts will become available if people see a post in the forums; seeing as there's about 7 scripts in the wiki, yet thousands of arch users, I made the fairly logical assumption that there may be more scripts out there that people haven't shared yet.

Cheers IceRAM.

Keep 'em coming people; if you want to simply post them into the wiki, that's fair enough - just give us a link so we know it's there.

This is one of the most worthless threads in the history of the internet.

Re: Roll up, roll up, bring your pacman scripts, one and all.

It's not that worthless. It told me that there's a scripts category in the Arch Wiki.

Now, where could you find that piece of information without going through the wiki over and over?

To be frank deficite, I couldn't care less whether or not you find a particular thread useful or not. But how about not posting your opinion of it if it's negative? Has your comment helped anyone, or been of any use whatsoever? I think not. So why bother? You're not gonna make any friends.

Re: Roll up, roll up, bring your pacman scripts, one and all.

Oh, yeah, now.. why didn't I think of searching the forums for "scripts section wiki"... maybe because I would have searched the wiki first?.. which brings me back to the reason I found this useful.

That looks like a thread from the begining of June, when I was
a) during exams
b) enjoying the holiday after the exams

In either situation, it looks like a topic started by you... so you can't have fogotten it. Ok, you thought about this first - congratulations. Now, do you actually think that I/anyone read(s) ALL the forum topics? Do you read them all?

Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to point this thread to your topic in the first place, instead of purely saying "wtf?", which kind of resembles the "the most useless thread in the history" comment?

*shrugs* I find this argument quite funny, cause I've definately posted more topics than I can remember.  8)

Perhaps my post was wrong, I honestly don't care. ;-)

Now, let's say this is a real huge problem, some people do not find the scripts section of the wiki. This is vital, this is absolutely essential to your arch user experience. How to fix this? I suppose we could make this or the other thread sticky. Or we could add a scripts section to that exponentially growing row of buttons at the top of the forum... (no offence to elasticdog, with buttons that look this cool, I can't blame us for wanting more of them :-)). Or we could repost every once in a while. Or maybe it should be a main category in the wiki (oh wait, it is). Maybe it should be on the front page of the wiki. Actually, I'd say that's a good idea. Maybe some of the more high level categories should have links on the main page. Howtos is linked, and so is wiki help, but maybe we should add scripts, general, and package management links to the main wiki page. This of course, would be something for cactus to wonder about...

I love flamebait. Funny how serious people take things when tone is not applied.

And people say English is not a tonal language.

If the wiki has a script session this thread is usless in my point of view

I can't recall that thread.

Well, I hope you guys don't get too mad when I post stuff. Nothing I say is ever really serious. I don't think I'm capable of such a thing.
