Arch 2013 + iPhone5

Hi guys,
I'm trying to use my iPhone5 in a VM(vbox - win7 guest) but Arch is not recognizing it. When I plug it in, nothing happens. It's not even charging the battery. However, my iPod seems to be working just fine.

$ lsusb

No, you're trying to us your iPhone5 in a vm and the vm isn't recognizing it. This isn't an Arch problem, and udev shouldn't affect how the vm sees the device (if you can mount it in Arch, but not the vm, then Arch isn't the problem, is what I'm getting at). Do you have guest additions properly installed? It's required to use USB devices. There may be particular conditions necessary for the iPhone to work, as well. I'd say look around the VirtualBox forums to eliminate that possiblity.

Thanks for the response ANOKNUSA, but I'm afraid you didn't get it. Let's forget about the vm then.

Did you try different USB ports? Did you try to connect something else on the troublesome USB port?

Edit: did you try

lsusb -v

it gives you massive amounts of information but might actually show something.

Libmobiledevice installed? Might need git version... I had a similar problem with some other apple hardware before support was in a final version.

yup, libmobiledevice is installed.
Also tried to install both libmobiledevice-git and its usbmuxd-git dependency, but GDM didn't started afterwards.

Tried that too.
The lsusb -v command didn't bring any information related to apple/iphone hardware.

Well, isn't foxlink an apple supplier? So I would imagine that the "Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxlink)" is simply the brading of the actual SoC. I am not at al sure about this though.

Also, in the past, it has taken a bit of time for apple devices to be supported on linux. I had one of those tiny ipod nanos (the really stoopidly tiny touchscreen one), and it was pretty not okay with linux for a while. Maybe your best bet is to use a virtual machine.

Does the ipod you speak of actually work in the virual machine, or are you simply referring to it charging and working within linux?

This foxlink appears even when the iphone is unplugged. Also, I've got a iPod Nano which works fine on archlinux.
I suppose if the host machine is not able to mount an usb device, the guest vm wouldn't do it as well.

I'll just leave it for now. It could also be cord issues. As I only have one, I'll give it a try with another and post the result as soon as possible.
