I have been trying to get Arch installed in Hyper-V client on Windows 8. I ran into the issue a month or so ago and kind of just gave up. I got the latest install media and tried again.
So, after creating the partitions and filesystems I mount /dev/sda1 to /mnt. Then I attempt to run mkdir /mnt/home or even simply ls /mnt/ and the system seems to hang. After a couple of minutes I get a couple messages:
INFO: task jbd2/sda1-8:399 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
"echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.
INFO: task ext4lazyinit:401 blocked ....
...
INFO: task mkdir:403 blocked ...
...
I have tried with both MBR and GPT partitioning, same result.
I have also ensured that the Hyper-V kernel modules are loaded:
lsmod | grep hv_
hv_utils
hv_netvsc
hv_storvsc
hv_vmbus
I have also successfully used ext4 in CentOS on Hyper-V.
From what I gather it seems that this might be caused by ext4 journaling? Do I need to wait after mounting for initial journaling to complete? Is there a way to check the status on that?
Or am I doing something else wrong?

Well, I am trying the same just today with the hyper-v server and not just the client but it's the same.
I will get back to you when I get time to troubleshoot. Right now, Barca is on and then it's other issues on testing this new server 2012. So far I'm not quite convinced.
I am hilariously insane. yup. you won't notice though.. I promise...I think.

Any update on this? I'm also hitting it using Arch on Windows 8 Hyper-V

Hi... I was testing a bit and found hyper-v to be a pretty shite hv, so testing vmware instead. WIll most likely set up hyper-v to only run win servers on it on a dedicated box. Sorry, but hyper-v wasn't up to the task for me.

I kind of gave up trying when no one posted any solutions. It is at least kind of reassuring to know that its not just me. I'll keep looking. Let me know if you figure it out.

Sorry to hear that. This is the first big problem that I've run into with Hyper-V. For all my other needs its been working fine. And I like that it is included in Windows 8 as I don't want to pay for VMware Workstation. Did you run into any other specific problems in Hyper-V?
