Cinnamon desktop is incompatible with Gnome 3.8?

If we update to gnome 3.8 cinnamon will be breaked?

This might be a dumb question, but couldn't Cinnamon be compiled and repackaged with static links enabled?  Maybe I'm misunderstanding the meaning of static link, but my understanding is it means that you compile the library dependencies into the binary blob so it operates independently of the libs you have installed.  Can it be compiled with Gnome 3.6 staticly linked?

I suppose more is needed since I haven't seen anyone mention otherwise, but saw this in the changelog for Cinnamon 1.7.4-1 currently in [Community-Testing].

Update to version 1.7.4, add compatibility patches with GNOME 3.8

Now Cinnamon is fully functional with GNOME 3.8. There may some minor bugs, but all major functions are working, so it will probably stay in the [community] repo in the next months.

I had read the following on the Cinnarch forums actually.

an Arch Linux guy and some others are helping with the porting to gnome 3.8, but it more certainly going to be dropped from communify due to incompatibility with clutter 1.14.0.

The critical issue is the incompatibility with clutter 1.14.0, which is not solved yet, so we still have to remove cinnamon from the [community] repository, when GNOME 3.8 moves into [extra]. (nemo is compatible so it could stay.) Cinnamon developers know about this problem, but it will probably take some time until they solve the problem. Unfortunately I can't fix the problem myself, and not even know, how can I debug muffin.

Since the announcement, much work is being doing to port cinnamon to gnome 3.8, so in a couple of weeks or so it could be finished acording with Clement.

well when a TU says cinnamon is going to stay in Arch official repos, it will I guess.

My god! I thought I've never had to see again the awful gnome shell blue desktop with none of my desktop icons, but just pacman -Syu and voila! my cinnamon broken and gnome shell instead of that...

ok going back to my XFCE4 until Cinnamon works again on Arch Linux...
