Re: New review

Very comprehensive article.

Hopefully, they will upgrade the details in an information addendum for the new initrd changes due to occur with kernel 2.6.14 which provide new requirements for bootloading.

Appreciate their efforts and the enthusiasm displayed!! big_smile

Re: New review

In the world of Linux distributions, Suse, Fedora/Red Hat. Mandrake, and Debian seem to be the hot talk of town.

That is a huge bad sign to me - a person reviewing a Linux distro does not mention Ubuntu?!  How can this person be considered to be up to speed on current Linux users expectations?!

Re: New review

ubuntu is a debian based distribution. Either he (she) was being very specific with base origins...or yeah. bad sign..

Re: New review

Well... I know that I still call it Mandrake anyway...  Mandrake is a cool name, it makes me think of wizards mixing up magic elixirs and stuff, whereas Mandriva just sounds silly. I always thought that Mandrake was the coolest distro name. It even had Arch Linux beat on that count!

Re: New review

Wasn't it exactly that wizardly association that screwed them tho?

Yeah. Mandrake was the name of a magician (or wizard?) of a comic book. They had legal problems (or had lawsuit coming up) for copyright reasons. That's probably why they changed their name after the merger.
