I know there's a lot of mpd users on here. So I thought I'd see if anyone has any experience with getting playback in multiple rooms in the house without having a computer in each room. Oh ya, and I'm cheap so I'm not looking to spend much And I have a laptop on a wireless network here, so I'm not real concerned with being able to control it from every room.
I know there's wireless devices for transmitting audio and/or video but they do cost a bit and I've yet to find any that don't use 2.4Ghz.
I think it was the mpd forums where I saw someone mention they had built 1/8" jack to rj45 converters to use existing network cabling running from the closet with the mpd server to distribute the sound. I thought that was pretty cool, but I have no idea how to do that :?
Anyways, not something real important. Just something I've been wondering about and thought I'd see if the creative minds around here have come up with anything to do something like this.

On my last computer I cut up my computer speaker wire, ran it to a 12V Alpine car amp running on a deep-cycle battery which was powering a 12" Alpine sub and two 6x9". It was just an experiment, mucking around with some mates stereo gear while his car was in getting painted. Story juice: maybe something like this but less drastic could work for you, just run speaker wire through the roof into a couple of decent-quality speakers in each room. To split the signal that much you'd probably need some sort of amplifier to keep good sound quality. It's an idea at any rate
