Gnome photos 3.8 : add/delete albums and photos

Maybe I'm missing something crucial here but this application only shows me all the photos in my ~/pictures folder. That's it.
I do not find in the GUI how to make it point to another directory, nor how to define or add albums (and yes I checked the top menu of application) ...

I think that for the moment it cannot do anything else. I was pretty disapointed when testing it. It's still a preview more than a finish application, like the new application groups.
Let's hope it will be finished for gnome 3.10.

I think gnome-photos can scan photos in others places than ~/pictures folders, you just have to set Tracker in the correct root.
Yes, we will have to wait 3.10 for the others stuffs...

Re: Gnome photos 3.8 : add/delete albums and photos

I found out how you can add albums. You first go to photos, than you select (via the 'tick' button in the upper right corner) a bunch of them. Below appears a bar with a '+' sign. Click on it, then choose add and give it a name. This is the album and will appear in the albums and in the photos view. You can also delete a album in the album view. This is just metadata that gets removed and does not the delete the photos belonging to the (deleted) album.
I found this out after playing around with gnome documents which allows you to group documents in the same way.

Well done to found it. But still, when you have hundreds (not to say thousands) of photos, it's not the most effective way to have albums. Let's hope there will be a folder view in the 3.10 release.

Re: Gnome photos 3.8 : add/delete albums and photos

Because it took me more than 30 minutes on the Gnome IRC channel to figure out how to add Photos from your (local) file system to Gnome Photos, here you go:

1. Open up Settings > Search
2. Select the "Photos" icon by clicking on it in the list
3. Click on the "gears" icon (bottom right) to open up the  "Search locations" screen
4. Select any folder you wish to use.

The indexing of image files in the selected folders starts immediately.
