Nautilus Desktop Drawing Error after Fixing Gnome Upgrade Problem

I did an upgrade today (-Syu) and also wanted to try the new Cinnamon package so I installed it. After doing these two things, I started getting the horribly unhelpful "Oh No! Something went wrong..." message; however, the fix from this post
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=162555
partially solved the problem. I uninstalled all of the Cinnamon packages (including Nemo, Muffin) and am currently trying to restore Gnome to its previous working state.

Now, I am having trouble getting Nautilus to draw the desktop properly. It does not paint the wallpaper, and the windows are "smearing" because the background is not being redrawn. This interferes significantly with workspace switching. I can get everything to work by disabling Nautilus as the desktop manager (except that the background is black), but would like to get this fixed.

Facts about my system:
-Arch with all latest updates
-Gnome Fallback
-Compiz
-Emerald window decorator

Thanks in advance,
